Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the sixth of the twenty Paris arrondissements, is perhaps best known for the literary and artistic celebrities who lived and worked here. It was the meeting point for existentialists, painters, and writers.

The church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés was part of an abbey founded in about 550 and was once the richest in France. It remains a prominent landmark today as it towers about the 6th. You can find the tomb of Descartes in the church.
