Paris Arrondissements –
The Islands

The Origins of Paris, Now Part of the
1st & 4th Paris Arrondissements

The Islands are possibly the most romantic spots in the Paris arrondissements. How many capitals have two petite islands in the middle of the city?

Paris Arrondissements: The Islands See those little slivers of green?
Those are the Islands, the original Paris

The settlement that began here predates all of the Paris arrondissements, which is why we've given them their own category.

The places reek of history — Notre Dame, the Concierge, Sainte-Chapelle, the Palais de Justice, and one of our favorite spots in Paris, Place Dauphine.

Though small, Ile de la Cité and Ile St Louis are packed with great boutiques, restaurants and sights. Stay on the islands, or visit them, and you can go to the bakery La Crémerie Saint Aubin, which sells Berthillon ice-cream. Also nearby are a world-class chocolatier, a foie gras purveyor, restaurants, creperies, and art galleries.
