These three Paris arrondissements, which form an arc on the east side of the central Paris arrondissements, are often a low-priority destination for visitors.
10th, 11th & 12th Arrondissements:
An Eastern Arc
And that's a shame, because there's a lot to see in these large residential Paris arrondissements.
The 10th hosts Canal Saint-Martin, which connects the waterways northeast of Paris to the Seine. It's an up-and-coming neighborhood: hip, young, trendish. It's also where you'll find three of the major trains stations of Paris and a couple of our favorite restaurants.
The 11th Arrondissement borders on the Marais and on the Père-Lachaise Cemetery, where many famous people are buried. (Where else can you talk about Oscar Wilde, Molière and Jim Morrison in the same breath?)
The 11th & 12th Paris arrondissements share Bastille, with its historical place and modern opera house. The 12th extends east to the Paris city limits and includes Gare de Lyon (for those heading to the south of France), the thriving Bercy neighborhood, and the very famous market street Rue d'Aligre.
Take a different Paris cruise! Traverse down the urban canals built by Napoleon in the 1800s, pass under Place de la Bastille, meander past the monuments of Paris and emerge onto the Seine.
On this illuminating Paris walk, you'll discover the events that led up to the storming of the Bastille, the capture of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI, and the bloody results of the guillotine.
Bercy, in the 12th, is a former warehouse area once famous for its wine storage. In recent years there's been a renaissance in culture and trade. Don't miss the linear, modern and pleasing Parc de Bercy.
Bonus: Bercy station is on the ultra-cool Metro Line 14.
